Council Holds Special Discussion On Health Crisis

The HSE's being asked to urgently address overcrowding and long waiting lists at the region's main hospital in Limerick amid claims of inordinate and deadly delays.

Members of Clare County Council held a special discussion on the issue in light of the case of a 101-year old Ballinruan woman forced to wait on a trolley for 25 hours.

Last evening's Council meeting in Sixmilebridge heard claims that people from Clare are being herded into a hospital not fit for purpose in Limerick and that older people are afraid to go there due to fears of waiting on trollies and getting sicker.

Meanwhile, a dedicated team is being put together to visit hospital emergency departments with the worst levels of overcrowding.

The squad from the HSE's Special Delivery Unit will put a plan in place that's tailored to the site and aimed at cutting the number of people awaiting treatment on trolleys.

It comes in light of the long trolley wait for the 101 year old Ballinruan woman, as well as a similar case at Tallaght.
