Council Holds First Ever Formal Online Meeting

Clare Councillors have attended a formal meeting of the local authority in a virtul sense for the first time.

It’s after the COVID pandemic prompted Minister for Local Government Darragh O’Brien to amend regulations and to sign an Order allowing meetings and votes to be held through a mix of in-person and online.

Until now, Clare Councillors had to gather together in one place, and meetings have been moved from the Council’s Ennis Headquarters to the bigger venue of Glór, in order to permit social distancing.

Four Councillors, and a small number of Council staff, attended this week’s meeting remotely with Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan having the distinction of making the first ever remote contribution in the 121-year history of Clare County Council.
