Council Gives Tentative Backing To Estates’ Salt Bins Scheme

Clare County Council says a proposal that could lead to safer conditions during icy conditions in housing estates throughout the county could prove “very beneficial.”

The idea has been floated by Ennis Councillor Mark Nestor, who wants the cost of salt bins to be subsidised by the local authority.

Similar to a scheme that’s already up-and-running in Cork, this would allow local residents to treat their footpaths and roads and make conditions safer for all.

The proposal will be examined this summer, ahead of return of wintry conditions, but Councillor Nestor thinks there could be a big return for a relatively small investment.
