Fresh anger has erupted over the lengthy wait for works to address issues at one of North Clare’s most infamous traffic black spots.

Clare County Council has confirmed a target date of late 2021 at the earliest, for the completion of multi-million works aimed at alleviating traffic problems at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon.

It follows criticism by Clare Senator Martin Conway, who’s called on both the local authority and the TII to give a clear timeline for when the project will come to fruition.

The local authority will begin engaging with landowners before the end of this year, while a detailed design is expected to be completed by late 2019. This will be followed by an 18 month construction phase.

It had been hoped that the project would be completed much sooner, and Joe McInerney of campaign group “Lets Get Ennistymon Moving”, has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it’s not acceptable.
