Clare County Council is confident that measures aimed at addressing traffic congestion at Blake’s Corner will advance to the planning stage by the end of this year.

It comes as some locals in the town have expressed frustration over traditional traffic gridlock during the tourist season.

Locals in Ennistymon say they are frustrated over ongoing issues at the infamous North Clare traffic blackspot.

They’re holding a demonstation at O’Brien’s shop from 6 o’clock this evening, calling for measures to be put in place to alleviate congestion, while long-awaited works are going through the planning stages.

They believe a warden or traffic management system would ease some of the problems experienced in the area.

One business owner claims the traffic problem is having a major impact on the local economy.

Joe Mc Inerny of McInerny’s Pub on Parliament Street says people are now purposely avoiding the Ennistymon.

But Clare County Council says it’s confident that the proposed improvement scheme will advance to the Planning stage by the end of this year.

The local authority has been in consultation with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and is proposing to build a new inner relief road and a bridge across the Inagh river.
