Union Seeks Engagement Over Aer Lingus Lay-Offs

The trade union representing Aer Lingus cabin crew at Shannon Airport says the decision to layoff staff was not agreed with the union.

While recognising the need for significant cuts, due to the crisis facing the aviation industry, the Forsa Trade Union says it wants to engage with the airline before the ending of State supports on June 21st.

Aer Lingus staff at Shannon were told yesterday that they are being laid off up to the end of August, as the airline is not currently operating flights from the Airport.

Aer Lingus says it’s communicating with staff and that it needs to “align working hours and pay with the amount of work that needs to be done.”

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe says workers have been badly treated.
