Shannon Group Called On To Outline Support Needed To Ensure Survival Of Airport

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD is calling on Shannon Group to outline what supports are needed from government to ensure the survival of Shannon Airport and avoid the closure of Shannon Heritage sites.

It comes temporary layoffs, reduced working hours, career breaks, and a voluntary severance scheme have been announced for staff at Shannon Airport.

A cross-party group of TDs from across the MidWest met yesterday in an attempt to solve issues facing the airport and heritage sites, though Shannon Group management weren’t present.

A Shannon Group spokesperson has confirmed that in light of the catastrophic impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the aviation industry, the CEO of Shannon Group has written to staff at Shannon Airport on a series of proposed cost reduction measures.

As we are in dialogue with employees and Union representatives it would be inappropriate to comment further.
