Clare’s Fine Gael TD says the government is working “day and night” to address issues coming up as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
A controversial sitting of the Dáil takes place later with the Labour Party boycotting it, saying TDs should be supporting the ‘stay at home’ message and cancelling non-essential sittings of the Dáil.
In keeping with national social distancing measures, around 30% of the 160 TDs will be present at the sitting, with only two deputies from each party or grouping in the chambers at any one time.
Just two items will be considered; one being a statement on health issues during the crisis and a second focused solely on social protection matters.
Clarecastle Deputy Joe Carey says each and every politician in Dáil Éireann is doing their bit.
