Localised data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows 1,811 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in this county in the days between the 22nd of December and this past Monday, 11th of January.

648 of these cases were in the Ennis region – its virus rate of 2096.4 means that up to last Monday, more than 1 in 50 people in the area were at that point diagnosed with COVID-19.

Just over 20% – 409 cases – of Clare’s total is in the Shannon area, with Killaloe’s 326 cases in the past fortnight have since its incidence rate double to 1621.2 per 100,000.

Ennistymon’s electoral area rate has more than trebled, meanwhile – 223 cases there mean it now stands at 1359.1, though that’s still below the national average.

The lowest incidence rate of the virus is now in West Clare, though 205 cases were diagnosed in that region in the 14 days up to Monday.

124 new cases of the virus were diagnosed here last night – only eight counties in Ireland have a higher rate of COVID-19.
