More community events in Clare have been cancelled or postponed, in response to concern surrounding the COVID-19 virus.

A confirmation ceremony in Kilmurry, Sixmiebridge, which was due to go ahead yesterday was postponed before it was due to start, even though there is no confirmed case in the community, while a planned Feis in Kilrush and a number of underage GAA games were also deferred as a precaution.

It’s also been announced that the planned St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Fanore has been cancelled, with organisers saying that they’re looking to minimise the risk of the virus spreading in the community.

Four cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in a Clare family this week, and so far three more cases have been confirmed in people who had come into contact with them.

The seven cases are among a total of 19 in the Republic of Ireland.

One additional case was diagnosed in Ireland on Saturday, but that was not connected with the diagnoses in Clare.
