Clare businesses forced to close their doors as a result of the Coronavirus crisis may be entitled to defer commercial rates payments for the next three months.
The Government has told local authorities that they should agree to defer rates payments in the retail, hospitality, leisure and childcare sectors until the end of May.
Clare County Council has urged rate payers experiencing difficulties in paying their rates to contact the local authority, and that they will be dealt with on a case by case basis, as the impact is not uniform.
Officials from the council have met with Ennis Chamber representatives to discuss financial pressures on businesses in the county town and CEO of the Chamber, Margaret O’Brien has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the rates deferral provides hope for many businesses.
