Call For Satellite Internet Providers To End Surcharges For Over-Use During COVID Crisis

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD says people in rural parts of the county are being burdened with additional internet costs during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they work from home.

Cathal Crowe says he has received a number of calls from those in West and North Clare, who have been exceeding their monthly satellite internet cap, which has led to sky rocketing surcharges being applied.

In these areas, fibre broadband isn’t yet an option, meaning they’re reliant on providers that cap the monthly allowance but with people working from home, there has been a spike in internet usage.
