64 Cases Of COVID In Clare In 14 Days As No New Cases Recorded For First Time This Year

Clare recorded just 64 new cases of COVID-19 in the two weeks up to this past Monday.

New figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show Shannon now has the highest incidence rate of the virus in this county, but it’s still less than half the national average.

It comes after no new cases were recorded here yesterday evening for the first time this year.

There were 19 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the Shannon electoral area in the fortnight up to Monday, April 5th.

Its rate of the virus stands at 62.5 per 100,000 people, having more than halved in the last month.

West Clare’s rate of 61.9 is broadly similar after 13 cases were confirmed there in the past fortnight, though its drop in incidence is slower than other areas of the county.

Rates in both North and East Clare have crept up, though not susbtantially – Ennistymon’s electoral area sits at 60.9 with 10 new cases there, and Killaloe’s is now at 49.7 after a further ten people contracted the virus in the area.

The Ennis region now has the lowest disease incidence in Clare – 12 cases there in the same 14 day period see its figure at 38.8 per 100,000 people.

No new cases were recorded in this county yesterday evening for the first time in 2021 – Clare’s overall incidence rate of 42.1 is now the fourth lowest in the country.
