41 More COVID Deaths Nationally As Eight New Patients Confirmed In Clare

An additional 41 people have died in the Republic of Ireland from COVID-19, bringing the total death toll to 406.

Eight new cases of the virus have been confirmed in Clare, bringing the total number in this county to 106, while nationally, there are now 11,497 COVID-19 cases in the country.

548 new cases have been detected in the past 24 hours, while there were 284 positive tests sent back from German labs.

Of the 41 patients who have sadly lost their lives to the virus, 36 of the deaths were located in the east, four in the west and one in the south of the country.

31 had an underlying health condition.

Over the past week, 20,468 tests were carried out in Irish laboratories and of these 4,233 were positive, giving a positivity rate of 21%.

Dr. Cillian De Gascun, Chair of NPHET’s Expert Advisory Group said; “Having come through a challenging few weeks, we have significantly strengthened testing capacity and will continue to do so over the coming week, to put us in a very strong position to identify and suppress the virus.”
