COPD Awareness Event To Take Place In Ennis

It’s claimed high numbers of people in Clare are unknowingly suffering in silence from COPD.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a largely preventable and treatable chrinic disease, affecting mainly people over 35 and is expected to be the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2020.

An event is being held at Cois na hAbhna, on the Gort Road in Ennis from 11am to 2pm today to mark World COPD Awareness Day, where there will be lung function testing, inhaler technique checks and advice.

Ennis man James Gallagher, who was diagnosed with COPD in 2011, says early detection can prevent the disease from developing, and he says people can do that today free of charge.
