New Housing Agency ‘Needs Authority’

A prominent MidWest-based housing authority says a proposed new agency to bolster the number of houses built here would need to be given the authority to achieve its aims.

The Nevin Economic Research Institute, which is backed by a number of trade unions, wants the government to ditch its ‘Rebuilding Ireland’ plan in favour of a new model which would see the creation of a commercial semi-state.

This company would secure billions of euro from the likes of the NTMA and the European Investment Bank, and then build thousands of homes a year.
