Concern Over Impact On Sand Dune System By Proposed Trump Doonbeg Project

A Government Department says a robust case needs to be made for the proposed sea protection barrier at Trump Doonbeg.

The Department of Arts and Heritage has told Clare County Council, in its submission on the new plan, that “the need for the project is not explained” and that it is concerned about the impact on the sand dune system at Doughmore Beach.

The five-star resort has said the works, which have been scaled back from a previous application that has now been withdrawn, are vital in protecting the property from coastal erosion.

The Department is one of over 30 parties who have made a submission in relation to the project, and Clare County Council is set to make a decision on it before the end of the month.
