Concern In Clare Over How Irish Language Is Taught In Schools

Concern is being expressed that Irish language teachers are getting nowhere with the current curriculum.

The Chief Inspector’s Report from the Department of Education has revealed the standard of learning of Irish in primary schools has deteriorated notably in the past four years.

It shows that the standards of Gaeilge are poorer than those in English and Maths generally, while 28% of examined schools were found to have ‘less than satisfactory’ teaching and learning of the language.

Presenter of Cul Caint on Clare, Donal Ó Lionsigh, says the issue is with how it’s being taught.
