Concern In Clare At Falling Parish Finances

The Parish Priest of Ennis says parish finances in Ireland are dropping every single year.

It comes as the diocese of Waterford and Lismore says it could not afford to pay priests’ wages at Christmas due to a fall-off in the amount of donations from parishioners.

While the base salary for a priest is to rise from €22,000 to €24,000 this year, the drop in mass attendance is having a heavy impact on parish and diocese coffers.
