Community’s world “turned upside down” by Eoin Ryan’s death.

Mourners at the funeral mass of Ennis Student Eoin Ryan has heard his death has left people confused, frightened, distressed and anxious.

Hundreds of people gathered at the church in Ballyea today to pay their final respects to the 21 year old and offer support to his parents Don and Phil, brother Daniel and sister Lisa.

Chief Celebrant Father Harry Brady told those gathered that the student’s death is a shock not just to Eoin’s family but to all his friends in this parish and all the other communities he touched.

Father Brady said the community’s world has been turned upside down, described the 21 year old’s loss as irreplaceable and that nothing could compensate for this.

He described Eoin Ryan as a kind , thoughtful, friendly young man, very attached to home and close to his family as well as a successful student who had been accepted for a Masters in Queen’s University.

The 21 year old’s sister Lisa and his cousin Thomas Ryan gave the readings, while other family members and friends at UL delivered the Prayers of the Faithful.

Daniel Ryan, Eoin’s brother, read the reflection at the end of holy communion and then expressed his family’s deep gratitude to all those who have supported them over the past few days.

He also described his brother as "a shining light in their hearts forever" 

Eoin David Ryan was then taken to his final resting place in the adjoining cemetery.

At Ennis District Court today, Gardaí were granted an application to have Barefield man Joe Heffernan further remanded in custody.

On Wednesday the 31 year old of Cappabeg, Barefield was charged with the murder of Eoin Ryan.

Mr Heffernan wasn’t present in court for today’s proceedings and the matter is due for mention again in a fortnight’s time.
