Tributes Pour In For Iconic Clare Broadcaster And Musician Pat Costello

Tributes are pouring in for broadcaster and musician Pat Costello, who passed away yesterday.

The Shannon resident is best known as a member of the renowned traditional group Shaskeen, and presented a number of award-winning radio shows on Clare FM for over two decades.

Originally from Moycarkey in Co, Tipperary, Pat Costello had been living in Shannon for forty years.

He’s best known as a member of the renowned traditional group Shaskeen, with whom he also worked as a producer on many of their albums.

Leader of Shaskeen, Tom Cussen says he will be sadly missed.

Pat also shared his vast musical knowledge as the presenter of his quintessential Gentle Folk programme here on Clare FM for several years and had produced many award winning radio programmes over the course of more than two decades.

Clare FM’s General Manager, Susan Murphy says Pat is simply irreplaceable.

Colleague and West Wind Presenter, Joan Hanrahan says Pat treasured his many friendships.

Pat Costello is survived by his wife Rita, children Padraig, Eimear, Mary and Bríd, his beloved grandchildren Feargal, Christopher, Meadhbh, Oisín, Cliodhna, Theodore, Maggie and Beth, his extended family and a wide circle of friends.

He’ll be laid to rest following a private funeral for family only.
