The operators of Doolin Ferry say they have been blown away with the response to a social media campaign to crack the mystery behind a US navy vessel that washed up near Inis Oírr.
The drone-style vessel was discovered in one of the company’s daily sailings to the Aran Islands on Tuesday and after posting about it on their Facebook page, they traced its story.
It’s a vessel specifically developed for navy gunnery training and managed to drift some 5,500km from Norfolk off the Virginia coast in the US.
