Call For Measures To Encourage People To Live In Rural Clare

A West Clare councillor is expressing fear that some of the county’s villages will die out if people aren’t encouraged to set up home in rural areas.

It comes as CSO figures have revealed a worrying decline in the population of rural Clare between 2011 and 2016; despite the county’s population overall rising by 1,100.

If the current rate of decline continues, some of Clare’s smallest rural communities could effectively be wiped out within a generation.
