Cold Snap Leads To icy Conditions On Some Clare Routes

Gardaí are advising motorists to slow down and drive with extreme care on the roads this morning.

Winter is beginning to take hold with temperatures plummetting from the highs experienced earlier this week to below freezing overnight, with more cold weather on the way over the coming days.

Hail showers early this morning led to treacherous conditions on the M18 Motorway near Gort, where two cars have already left the road, while there’s also reports of slippery conditions near the Crusheen exit and separately on the Ennis to Inagh road.

Meanwhile, Clare County Council is confident there’s sufficient rock salt stocks as the cold snap sets in.

1,900 tonnes of rock salt are currently in storage and a further 1,000 has been ordered this week, which is more than the total supply for last year.
