Clare VEC Jobs Safe Despite Merger Plan

600 Jobs in the Clare VEC are expected to be safe under plans to merge the local Vocational Education Committee with North Tipperary.

The plan announced by Education Minister Mary Coughlan will see VECs merging right across the country but no details have been given to local staff in the Clare VEC on how their new arrangement with Tipperary North Riding will work.

The Clare VEC has a budget of around 35 million euro per year and caters for around 6000 students, but it’s Chief Executive George O’Callaghan says there should be no negative affects for schools or adult education services from the merger.
