A new report by Fáilte Ireland says 749,000 overseas visitors came to Clare last year, up by well over 100 thousand.

That increase is also reflected in the bottom line, as the €158 million in revenue that has been generated by them marks a €20 million year-on-year increase.

Clare is also the fifth most popular county for foreign visitors to Ireland.

However, the number of trips to Clare by Irish tourists declined to its lowest level since 2013.

362,000 Irish residents travelled here, down from 423,000 in 2016.

That was still worth an estimated €86 million to the local economy.
