Clare Top Cop says Gardaí make significant inroads on crime

The new Chief Superintendent in Clare believes Gardaí are making significant strides against burglaries following a number of arrests in the last week.

John Kerin has told Clare FM he’s committed to lowering the number of break-ins to local homes and businesses following numerous home burglaries recently and several violent robberies at businesses in Shannon.

There were 425 burglaries in Clare last year, and the new Head of the Clare Garda Division says it actually represents a fall of 21% on the previous year, though he admits the figures have seen a slight rise in the first two months of 2010.

But following the arrest of four different groups throughout Clare last week, and another detention in Shannon on Sunday night, Chief Superintendent Kerin believes progress is being made.

Meanwhile Clare Gardaí are appealing for continued assistance from the public in catching drug dealers and users in the county, following recent concerns about heroin-related deaths.

Chief Superintendent John Kerin admits there’s a serious drug problem in Ennis, including heroin use, though he’s says it’s an unfortunate reality in all large towns.

The new Clare Garda boss told Clare FM help from the public in detection of those using and supplying drugs will help to control the problem.
