It’s claimed Clare’s backing of Peter Casey in his bid for the presidency will ensure people have a diverse mix to choose from on polling day.
Local representatives here last evening gave the Donegal businessman the backing of the county council to run – meaning he has two of the required four to enter the race.
His candidacy was support by seven councillors, with 18 abstaining and nobody going against him, which ensured he was given their support.
