Clare Landlords Leaving Rental Market Due To Associated Charges

It’s claimed Clare landlords are leaving the rental market on account of taxes and charges associated with renting out a property.

There’s further bad news for renters today, with the average monthly payment reaching an all-time high.

There’s fresh calls for Government intervention after the latest daft.ie report showed a fifth consecutive rise in rental prices across the country.

Here in Clare, it now costs 709 euro, on average, to rent a home – a 12% rise year-on-year.

While, outside of cities, rents in Munster are now just 1% below Keltic Tiger Peaks and supply throughout the province is at its lowest level since early 2006.

Auctioneers in Ennis say the charges associated with renting out a home are turning the rental sector into an unattractive investment for landlords.

Cormac O’Sullivan of DNG O’Sullivan Hurley says there needs to be increased incentives for landlords to bring them back into the market.

Rental prices continue to be at their highest in cities, sparking renewed fears that students will be forced to pull out of college or commute long distances.

UCD Students Union has exposed some of the properties available for rent including a 3 bedroom house in Drumcondra, that was being advertised as suitable for 15 people.

Barry Murphy from UCDSU says the shortage and cost of accommodation is scuppering students’ plans.
