Clare Homes Remain Without Power Or Water In The Wake Of Storm Ophelia

70 homes and businesses in Clare are among over 100 thousand across the country who remain without electricity in the wake of storm Ophelia.

Repair crews have been working round the clock since the worst storm to hit the republic in over 50 years knocked out supplies on Monday.

The ESB is warning that it will be switching off supply for short periods in areas across the county as part of efforts to ensure all homes have full power by the end of the day.

48 thousand thousand homes have no water on account of the outages, including a number in Ballyvaughan, Gragan West and Corkscrew Hill.

Properties in Miltown Malbay, Mullagh, Cooraclare, Spanish Point, Creegh are also without water supply due to essential reservoir works, and a pump failure has led to a loss of supply in O’Brien’s Bridge, Ardnatagle and Bridgetown.

Meanwhile, children across the county are back to school today after a two-day closure on account of Storm Ophelia.

Bus Éireann is resuming over 6 thousand school transport services this morning and the company says little or no disruption is anticipated.
