Clare Homelessness Levels Increase By 22%

The level of homelessness in Clare has reached it’s highest level in recent years.

New figures from the Department of Housing show 43 adults were without a home in the county in May, a 22% rise on the previous month.

But the figures for the mid-west as a whole have fallen marginally as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show there were 323 homeless adults in the Midwest in May, a fall of 1 on April’s figure.

The largest portion of those were aged between the age of 25 and 44 and the majority were male.

There were 53 families living in emergency accomodation in hotels, hostels or B&B’s, 40 were single parent families.

Amongst them were 102 children, up from 86 in April.

There was also a rise in the number of homeless adults in Clare to 43, up from 35 in April.

The figure is two and a half times that of the same period in 2016 and the highest level in recent years.
