Clare Historian ‘Gravely Concerned’ As History Removed As Core Subject

An East Clare historian says he fundamentally disagrees with removing history as a core subject in Irish schools.

As the new term gets underway, it is no longer a compulsory subject for those in the Junior Cycle to study – a move that even President Michael D Higgins expressed his disquiet at earlier this year.

It’s led to outcry from historians across the country, who say it will have a grave impact on the next generation.
