Gardaí in Clare are warning that anyone who launders money for criminals in a deliberate or reckless fashion could face up to 14 years in prison.
The warning is aimed at so-called money mules, or people who allow their bank accounts to be used to launder the proceeds of crime. to launder the proceeds of crime.
Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer says students, in particular, are often targeted by organised crime gangs, who attempt to launder thousands in exchange for a payment of several hundred euro.
