This, combined with a subsequent drop in temperatures, led to treacherous conditions on some county roads.

Emergency services were called to 7 different incidents on the M18 motorway near Gort and Crusheen alone.

One woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where she was treated for her injuries, which are described as not serious.

A number of other incidents were reported on the N68 Kilrush to Ennis road, the Ennis
to Ennistymon Road, the Kildysart to Clarecastle road and minor routes in Ennis town and surrounding areas, but there are no reports of any serious injuries.

Clare County Council has since treated the affected routes again, but is warning drivers to slow down and take extra precautions when out and about today.
