Clare Farmer Takes Compensation Claim To European Parliament

A European Parliament Committee has heard calls from a North Clare farmer that he and his wife receive compensation from the state over a refusal to grant cattle identity tags for his herds.

Tom and Mary Clair from Lahinch have taken their case to Brussels over the 2001 decision which ultimately meant that they could not sell some animals.

As it was used as a reference year, the decision also resulted in lower payments for the Clairs in subsequent years.

They now want compensation from the Irish State and are seeking the farm premium rights allegedly withheld from them.
