Clare drivers buy 81 new cars last month

Clare motorists purchased 81 new cars last month, the lowest monthly total so far in 2010.

However, the figure is still more than double that of September last year.

Figures from motorcheck.ie show there was a monthly rise of 131% in the number of cars sold, while for the first nine months of the year, there has been a rise of 832 in the total number of vehicles registered in the county.

The figures also show that environmentally friendly cars are becoming more common on the county’s roads.

76 of the cars sold in Clare in 2010 are flexi-fuel or hybrid models, up from just 9 last year.

Meanwhile seperate figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry have revealed that 447 Clare drivers have availed of the scrappage scheme in the first nine months of the year
