“Dark Cloud” Hanging Over Shannon With Passing Of Councillor Mike McKee

Tributes are being paid to the late Shannon Sinn Féin Councillor Mike McKee, who died yesterday following a long illness.

The Belfast native was first elected to Shannon Town Council in 1985 and secured the party’s first seat on the county council in 40 years in 2014.

Despite being too unwell to campaign in this year’s local election, Mike was re-elected to his seat and was also set to be a candidate for his party in the next General Election.

Mike’s funeral mass will take place on Monday and his Clare Sinn Féin colleague Peter Flannigan says there’s a dark cloud over Shannon town today.
