Clare County Council urged to reduce rates

Clare County Council are being urged to reduce rates being paid by tourist providers particularly in West Clare

The call comes amid a reduction in tourism numbers across the county in light of the recession.

The local authority say that they recognise the difficulties being experienced by commercial businesses and have a variety of payment options for those who are finding it hard.

Cooraclare Fianna Fail Councillor Bill Chambers, who raised the issue with the Council, says that he’s disappointed that businesses have to pay rates for a full year when the tourist season is so short.
