This time last year, Clare County Council had planned to build 29 new homes and acquire 35.

In both cases, it exceeded expectations – building 39 new homes and acquiring some 75.

In terms of council homes to be leased, however, its target of acquiring 100 failed to be met with 53 coming on stream.

The Chief Executive’s report acknowledges that supply continues to be an issue in this regard.

In addition, 14 vacant homes were taken under council control, while they had 22 derelict voids – which are properties refurbished after being vacant long-term.

In total, it means that 203 homes under the council’s authority came on stream in 2018, 23% more than their initial target of 164.
