Clare County Council CEO In Favour Of Re-Introducing Town Councils

The CEO of Clare County Council believes there is merit in re-introducing Town Councils in areas like Ennis.

80 municipal authorities across the country including in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush and Kilkee were abolished in 2014, as part of a range of local Government reforms aimed at saving the taxpayer money.

But a recent Fianna Fáil bill, which passed by one vote, has reinvigorated the campaign for their return in many areas, including here in Clare.

CEO of the local authority, Pat Dowling, says while it will ultimately be a Government decision, there is scope for local governance to be returned in some form.
