Clare Business’ Bamboo Hurleys Popular Among Players

The ‘Clash of the Ash’ may become a thing of the past as a prominent Clare hurley maker has begun using bamboo to make hurleys.

Torpey Hurleys in Sixmilebridge have been tinkering with bamboo as far back as 2014 but feel now that they have perfected the craft, and have begun selling the new hurleys.

Traditionally hurleys are constructed from ash timber, but the tree has been affected by ash dieback disease, prompting the search for new materials.
