Claims Teachers Are Disillusioned By Row Over Pay And Conditions

Clare’s ASTI representative claims teachers are disillusioned as the row over pay and conditions rumbles on.

The threat of secondary school closures next month has been averted after teachers voted against taking more strike action, but delegates have voted to withdraw from classroom substitution duties from September.

The ASTI remain the only teachers union outside the Lansdowne Road Agreement, meaning they are not currently being paid for classroom supervision.

Teacher at St Flannan’s College Ennis Peter Quinn says it’s having a negative impact on teacher morale.
