It’s claimed that dozens of jobs in Clare will be lost as a result of the doubling of a betting tax in last week’s budget.

The Irish Bookmakers Association estimates that as many as eight bookies in this county will be forced to permanently shut their doors, after the tax was increased from 1% to 2%, with the loss of 46 jobs.

The IBA says they’ll be among 239 in the west of the country alone, with 1000 indirect jobs also lost.
