Claims Council Can’t Sustain Rate Of Growth On Social Housing List

It’s claimed that Clare County Council can’t sustain the current rate of growth on the county’s social housing list in the coming year.

At the end of last year, there were over 2,700 applicants for social housing, with more 1,600 of those availing of supports under the HAP and RAS schemes.

But just under 900 families and individuals had no home of their own and were living with other family and friends.

The number of adults and children living in emergency accommodation doubled to 109, but despite this, Chair of the local authority’s Housing Committee, Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn says progress is being made.
