A former chair of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee has given a cautious welcome to the addition of armed Gardaí to assist in searches and checkpoints across the county.
The deployment comes as part of Operation Thor and follows recent CSO figures which show that thefts and burglaries rose by 10 and 19% respectively in the past year in Clare.
Clare Gardaí say a proactive approach to intercept travelling criminals coming to Clare to commit burglaries will drive these instances down.
