A Clare government TD says he’s received reassurances that the Medical Assessment Unit at Ennis General will not be scaled back.

Fine Gael’s Joe Carey says he has spoken with the head of the UL Hospitals Group Colette Cowan, and has been told that the service will continue to operate seven-days-a-week.

That’s despite the concerns of Deputy Michael Harty, who told the Dáil that he believes it’ll be scaled back to five-days.

The Hospitals group itself says a review is ongoing, and that no decision has been made.

But Deputy Carey believes the service will remain as it currently stands.
