Cardinal Connell Described As A Man Who Tried His Best In Difficult Times.

The Bishop of Killaloe has described Cardinal Desmond Connell as a man who tried his best at a very difficult time.

The Cardinal has passed away overnight at the age of 90, following a long illness.

Desmond Connell served as Archbishop of Dublin from 1988 until 2004 before becoming Cardinal in 2001, and was criticised for his handling of clerical sex abuse cases, and at one point issued a statement asking for forgiveness.
