There are calls for volunteers to be given an increased role in assisting during extreme weather events in Clare.

Newmarket-on-Fergus councillor Pat McMahon claims a number of people around the county during the recent stormy weather wanted to help and should be allowed do so where safe.

He wants to see the local authority take a co-ordinating role with the use of social media, local media and voluntary groups to help restore normality.
