Calls for Limerick to resolve governance issues without affecting Clare

The city and county councils of Limerick have been urged to resolve their issues on the governance of Limerick, without affecting the current boundary with Clare.

The call comes after it emerged that the Environment Minister Phil Hogan has already held talks with the Mayor of Limerick and Denis Brosan- whose report on the future of local government in Limerick recommends extending city borders into Westbury and Shannon Banks.

Clare’s local representatives have re-iterated theri opposition to any such move – Clonlara councillor Michael Begley feels the issues that need to be resolved are in Limerick, and not Clare
