Calls have been made in Clare for the Back to School payment scheme to be extended to low income families as well as those on social welfare.

The rate of payments has been increased by 25 per cent to 125 euro for children between the age of 4 and 11 years and 250 for those over 12.

Applications for the support fund open at local social welfare offices this week, with payments due in July.
